  • Well, Vancouver was a bust (literally), so we hit the road to explore this lovely country. New Zealand's jaw dropping beauty was at its finest this weekend with dark stormy skies and mountainous green pastures - I could only ask Kyle to stop the car so many times so was only able to capture a tiny glimpse of the Hawkes Bay countryside. Known as the red wine region of New Zealand, Hawkes Bay is home to Napier, Hastings and Havelock North - each with yummy wines…and oh yeah, other kid attractions. Napier was destroyed in an earthquake in 1931 so the rebuilding was centred around the art deco craze of the time, check it out...

Traveling over the mountain range to the Wairarapa - see that skinny, treacherous road (path) along the mountainside? Are we in Guatemala or something…?

Bad habits start young - uh oh.
    LOVE YOU New Zealand Cafes!!!

    Only in New Zealand….

    Random biker

    Nice view on the job!!
Another nice view on the job...

    Count the sheep?

Eckuh-tuh-hoona - we are getting used to the pronunciation of NZ towns, also enjoying discovering the supersized animal or vegetable associated with each town. THIS is the ever elusive, nocturnal kiwi bird.

Heading out for Tuna and Swordfish right after a smoke…or two…or four

Success at another aquarium…hot pools by the ocean were also a hit
Ash from Chile overhead - it is the first landmass you will hit sailing straight from Napier

  • Right! Adelyn's turn for a little action (Grayson 2 posts down). They don't have NZ accents to date, but they certainly learn new words and new songs with the accent - friends for example are - scaaaa let (not scarlet), and Tayla (not Taylor).

Finally, my website is complete enough to be posted!! www.kristenlunman.com - now for a FB page and business cards. I am not sure if I am ready to work so I will take my time on those…;)

  • Settler Cemetery - smack dab in the middle of downtown filled with amazing/tragic stories
    c...
Only 2 original Chinatown houses left standing - weren't actually this colourful back then!

One of the many galleries on Cuba St - filled with character - wouldn't want to be in this building in an earthquake!

Typical NZ cafe - on every block with AMAZING lattes/flat whites - no chains to be found here!
Our morning out at Red Rocks, south end of the city
